Discover Bodrum Turkey
> Around the Peninsula
We have a number of special arrangements to ensure that you have a high quality experience whilst you are staying with us. We try our hardest to ensure that the standards of the people that we recommend are as good as the Su itself. Please let us know if any recommendations are not to your liking.
There are a wide range of trips around the Peninsula which you will find interesting and exciting. The combination of the beautiful blue Aegean and the rocky coastline provides beautiful views and fine walks.
Beaches
The best beaches are Ortakent (20 minutes), Gümüslük (35 minutes) Yalikavak (35 minutes), and Bagla (25 minutes). The nearest beaches are Bardakçi 5 minutes away and Gümbet 10 minutes. All are easily accessible using either our bus or alternatively the Dolmus leaves from the bus station which is 10 minutes walk away.
Aqua Parks
There is a local water park which is perfect for small children 10 minutes away and there is a further water park where a greater sense of adventure is required some 10 minutes away.
Birding
We have a professional bird watcher that will accompany you on a tour of the main bird watching sites in the Peninsula and have full details in the hotel or on our web site.
Trekking
The flora and fauna are particularly magnificent in Spring and Autumn, when the majority of our guests want to see a little more of the delightful countryside. We can either recommend walks through deserted villages and ancient cities or we can arrange for a guide to accompany you on your explorations. There is a wonderful world just outside the Hotel for you to explore!
Boat trips
One of the true delights of Bodrum are the "Blue Cruises" which tour the Aegean , many being on the distinctive Gullets for which Bodrum is renowned. Full details available from reception.
Carpets
Turkey is proud of its centuries old tradition of carpet weaving and a trip that many of our guests have enjoyed is seeing some of the fine carpets being made in a local tradition, coupled with a traditional village meal. There is no obligation to buy but??..
Kos
The Greek island of Kos is a mere 8 miles away and the ferries run all day long. The island is well worth a short visit.
> Restaurants
Bodrum has one of the finest ranges of cuisine to suit every taste within a short distance walk from the Hotel. Whether it is the finest Turkish cuisine or other cultures you desire Bodrum has everything from McDonalds to Chinese.
Restaurants change all the time however our current recommendations are:
Epsilon
Is the nearest restaurant to the Su. It is owned by a Dutch lady who has immaculate standards and loves to
entertain her guests with renditions on her flute. It is a quiet civilized place that serves traditional Aegean cuisine. It is medium priced by Bodrum standards
Denizhan
This is, in our opinion, the finest Turkish cuisine in the town. Situated on the outskirts of the town you will need a taxi or our minibus to get there. It is worth the effort.
It combines modern standards of decoration and facilities with a traditional Turkish cuisine. The lamb is to die for. Pricing is medium to upper by Bodrum standards.
Sünger Pizza
Cheap and cheerful. It is always crowded with lots of local Turkish people and the sailing crowd.
If you venture on to the roof there are tremendous views across the Harbour towards the castle. The personality of the place reflects the local well-known owner.
Yaghane
Located on the sea front in an old stone house this restaurant has rapidly become one of our favourites. The atmosphere during the day is redolent of a club, and then in the evening it becomes a restaurant and entertainment centre. Live music on the cabaret lines is part of the experience, so it can be quite noisy.
The food is high quality Turkish with careful attention to service. Plates, cutlery and glasses are changed regularly - it seems after almost every drink. The waiters are tremendously attentive. Make sure you book because it seems to be getting very busy with the in-crowd.
It is medium to high priced by Bodrum standards but well worth the extra. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
Marina Yacht Club
This venue has rapidly become one of our favourite Bodrum night spots. Beautifully fitted out it boast’s three restaurants. The Marina Yacht Club restaurant serves an international cuisine, where it would be hard to find something you did not like. An Italian Bistro is a welcome addition to the Bodrum scene. Upstairs is the best of the lot. Outstanding views of the harbour coupled with superb presentation of the food. Overall 5 star location but the service whilst good does not quite (but it is improving) match up to the location and food. After 10.30 there is good to excellent music ranging from Jazz to Cuban dancing and lounge lizard music. We love it – but don’t forget to ask us to book at peak season!
Berk
Great fish restaurant in lively part of the town (beside Halicarnassus disco). Choose your fish and meze downstairs and eat upstairs. The service is truly outstanding. One of the waiters really should be on the stage – he is truly funny whatever language you speak!!! Don’t be put off by the poor furniture and scruffy surroundings. The food is just great (if you like fish). Book before you go because we are not the only ones to have discovered them.
Gümüslük
A sunken city and harbour from ancient times, coupled with a fishing village, interesting walk across the sunken city wall to Rabbit island provides a superb back drop for the restaurants that line the harbour.
A true delight is watching the Sun slowly sinking into the Aegean on a warm summers evening. The restaurants serve traditional food with particular emphasis on Fish freshly caught. Our favorite is restaurant. Our minibus can take you there.
Türkbükü
The quieter resorts much favoured by the wealthy from Istanbul include this lovely village where the restaurants nestle along
the side of the Aegean , and the experience is enhanced by the restaurants actually spilling out onto the water. Our favorite restaurant specializes in Fish and is called Tiyatrom.
> Shopping
Bodrum offers a wide variety of shopping experiences. Principal amongst these are:
In Town
Bodrum has hundreds of small shops. Particular specializes of the shops are the Jewelry trade where local craftsman produce beautiful small pieces of silver and gold. If you wish they will make up pieces for you. We can recommend leather craftsmen who will make up pieces to your specification or design clothes for you.
Bodrum has a range of local potters whose work is unique and inspirational. We have some on view in the hotel and can recommend shops if you want to see further examples.
The Marina
Nestling next to the marina there is a new shopping center with a range of boutique shops and few cafes to while away the hours. There are splendid views of the marina from the café first floors.
Markets
The markets are a short stroll from the Su.
The Tuesday market hustles and bustles with a mountain of goods on offer - mainly clothing. There are also some local crafts to admire. Well worth a visit.
On Thursday and Friday there are fruit and vegetable markets - worth seeing for the amazing variety of fresh produce.
Our Hotel shop
We have a range of goods, which we have chosen as they represent the work of some of the best craftsmen in the town. In particular the work of two local sisters on ivory has a jewel like quality.
Oasis Shopping Centre
Beautifully laid out with impressive landscaping and paving. There is a wide range of shops from designer boutiques to furniture and lighting. There is a very good food court - we recommend Begonville - which is the best of the small restaurants. Biblos does a great cheesecake. Great for a half-day for the confirmed shopaholics!
> Nightlife
One of the greatest advantages of our hotel is that we just far enough away from the buzz of Bodrum centre to allow you to rest but near enough to walk everywhere. Whether it is a humble bar or a raucous disco Bodrum has it all. Halikarnossus the disco is renowned throughout the Eastern Mediterranean . There are a host of bars playing anything from Jazz to Garage.
> Antiquity in Bodrum
The Su Hotel is an excellent base to commence your explorations of the ancient cities built by successively The Carians, The Greeks, The Romans, and The Crusaders to the modern Turks. Each has left marks of civilisation. Bodrum is one of the finest cities with accessible well explained remains. Inside the Hotel itself we are very proud to have a number of antiquities including a Roman Amphora, fragments of the mausoleum at Halicarnassus and fragments of ancient artifices.
Herodotus, known as the "father of history" wrote the first history of the world from his base in Halicarnassus (now Bodrum).
These include:
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
Built by King Mausolus some 2,500 years ago - at the time the largest building in Europe . One of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the mausoleum is a short walk from the Su. Don't expect too much. The British Museum has the best bits and the Castle the next best relics. Worth a trip - check the opening times as it seems to be run for the benefit of the staff rather than for the visitors!
Castle of St. Peter
Built by the crusaders in the 15th century the castle is now the pride of Bodrum, and dominates the modern town. It has an enormous number of displays and is one of the best museums in Turkey and has the only under water archaeology museum in the world.
Antique Theatre
A few hundred yards from the Hotel the Antique Theatre is an impressive Roman Amphitheatre, which commands extensive views of Bodrum - especially at sunset.
Myndos Gate
In ancient times the whole of Bodrum was enclosed by a wall measuring 7 Miles before Alexander the Great destroyed it. There are fascinating pieces all over the city but the best of these is the Western Gate to the city, which is a hugely impressive site that will stimulate your imagination about what Bodrum was once like over 2,000 years ago.
Further afield
Within easy access from the Hotel - in our own minibus we can take you to some of the other wonderful sites of the Aegean region. These include Ephesus, Pamukkale, Afrodisias, Kaunos, İasos, Labranda and many other sites that are famous not only in Turkey but throughout the world. Our further services
You may wish to organise your own tour, however we would be delighted to put together a full itinerary for your visit to Turkey , including hotel and travel arrangements.
